we were happy...

...to return home after a 4.5 hour ferry ride. we opted to forego participating in the 'nightlife' of ermoupolis that friday night and instead took a taxi to the warm, inviting 'cave' home with no address. we canoodled and giggled like 2 playmates at a sleepover. riiiiiiiight.

the next morning we walked into town. we ran into this once out on the main road. as m was taking pictures, its owner noticed and all gestures and smiles offered to pose for him proudly. it was superb. please notice the shell station in the background. we continued the fairly long walk to the city without any close calls of being run over. always a plus.

over the next 4-5 days we zoomed around the exciting racewayesque winding roads. we went to open markets, wandered amongst shops, ate at random delicious restaurants, looked um...'challenged'...

we also came upon the pack of dogs you will always find together in ermoupolis roaming, ruling the streets, lemon trees (as they serve you just about a half lemon with any entree you order), and a homo-erotic label of this alcohol in many places.

one of the best times was driving around on the rainy, misty day that ended at a very local restaurant. we were privy to a traditional albanian dance by one of the 2 groups of people there. when they saw we were enjoying them we were given two very deep glasses of a grapa like alcohol (which i did not have to finish for m this time as we had done previously when given hard liquor by the landlord...the ol' behind the back switcharoo). when we had finished that they donned a white wine and club soda mix on m and we were then held a bit captive by the extremely
drunk greek man. while all were jovial and friendly, once the one man became almost unintelligible we made a smooth exit.

by this point m might have had just enough of me taking unsuspecting pictures of him so i moved on to the sunset later while he was still writing.

oh! and syros was the birthplace of the 'Davidoff' (a chic european cigarette brand i unknowingly bought in the duty free shop on the ferry) ad campaign for us. enjoy!
