the last day...

...of kythnos i drove back to loutra for my 3 hour scuba diving lesson and 6meter dive. we had said noon. it would give me plenty of time to catch my 16:00 ferry back to syros. i showed up around 11:45...to an empty dive center and a locked door. :( i asked around and was told they would be back some time. haha.

i decided to go and sit in the hot springs again since i already had my suit on. i shared it with this kid.

when it was coffee time i noticed the divers sitting out front! hark! perhaps i was just too early?! i walked over to the man i had talked with two other times by now...he told me my eye looked much better, that they had already gone out in the morning since they were all going to be leaving for athens on the 17:00 ferry. i didn't ask him any questions...there really wasn't anything to be done about it. he asked me if i would be back in kythnos, perhaps we could go another time? (note: he was not being rude or flip during any of this, btw...just genuinely didn't see there might be a problem or mix up. haha) i said you never know, i might be and i went for my coffee...not too bummed actually. i'll scuba dive somewhere, some time.

this girl helped...bein so cute and all, lookin like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders at first.

when i asked her parents if i could take pictures of her...she got very shy, when i went back to my seat, she kept playing peek-a-boo with me, her and her greek curly head.

i also went to see if the 'baths' were open...greece's first King, Otto, and his Queen Amalia bathed here up until the 1860s when they were overthrown so i'd say it's pretty old. unfortunately greece takes about 2 weeks off for easter so it was closed...this was what i saw inside...

apparently it's been updated in some places.

this is the exterior....in the wide you will see 2 drastic styles. the one in the back looks older (it's from a neighboring 19th century hotel), but it was actually added in the 60s (20th century that is) when the horrid 'concrete' motif was in. blak.

i decided to head back to visit mrs. irini across 'town' (it's about 2 minutes walking). i found this old police bike on the way.

i asked if i could take some pictures of her and she completley got into it after a few...insisting that i take a photographs of her and her 'products'. she picked up a bag of Lays, i suggested her homemade candied tamarinds instead. haha...

she also thought i should have some photographs of her creating her handmade embroidered table runner. i wholeheartedly agreed. and tried to convince her to sell me some(she makes curtains, bedspreads, etc). she said she really only makes them for her grandkids&kids as functional items. she doesn't sell them. sadly.

this is her ceiling.

these are her candied fruits. i was so focused on taking pictures of them...i forgot to buy some. (i did have some of them with the rockabilly couple though)

sitting with her, talking...a lot about the 'new store' around the corner that is overrpriced, but closer to the main path...literally about 10 steps closer...(when talking about the owner she reached over to me with her hand and simulated cutting my throat. awesome!)... taking pictures of her pretty much made my day. other than having yogurt and espresso in merichas before my ferry, this was the last thing i did before leaving kythnos. she told me to send some pictures in the mail to her. all i needed to write on the envelope is Mrs. Irini, Super Market, Loutra and it would get to her. and i shall do it.
